A Pool/Spa Can Be a Source of Compliments Instead of Complaints

One of the major focal points of any hotel is, of course, the pool and spa. It can, and usually is, however, one of the biggest sources of management headaches due to guest complaints, operation and maintenance costs. Guests complain about the heavy chlorine odor, red eyes,

damaged hair, bleached-out bathing suits and even cloudy water. The high chemical levels also accelerate the degradation of pool equipment and pool surfaces.

In the case of indoor pools and spas, the heavy chlorine odor is both a health hazard and corrosive to both the building and air circulation systems. If these problems sound all too familiar, there is a solution.

Natural Water Environments of Bedford, Texas, markets a revolutionary new technology called the Hydroxyl Radical Generating System or HRGS. This technology can actually reduce the chemical exposure of swimmers in commercial pools and spas by up to 50%, while improving the water quality and producing dramatically lower bacteria levels in the water. In a residential pool, the system can reduce chemical exposure by up to 90%. The pool & spa is safer and more enjoyable for guests due to the reduced chemical exposure and lower bacteria levels. The hotel management enjoys the reduced chemical costs, easier pool maintenance and fewer guest complaints about the water quality.

While the technology is complex, the concept itself is very simple. Water has all the ingredients required to become a powerful, yet natural sanitizing agent. In its natural form, water (H20) is neutral. Because the water molecule is bipolar, it can be separated electronically into its elemental components, which then form the second, third, fifth and ninth most powerful oxidizing agents known to science.

The oxidizing agents formed by the HRGS system are: the Hydroxyl Radical (OH), Nascent Oxygen (0), Hydrogen Peroxide (H202) and Oxygen (02). The hydroxyl radical is known to break the hydrocarbon bond so often associated with toxic chemicals.

The best aspect of this technology is that it is clean, "all natural’, non-staining, with no odor and with none of the negative side effects attributed to chlorine and related chemicals. It is non-toxic to humans and animals.

This is the way it works: The HRGS system is installed so that it becomes the last component in line before the freshly sanitized water is returned to the pool. It is installed behind the pump, filter and heater. The 45,000-gallon HRGS system components include a 12-pound, 18 inch-tall round chamber (8" circumference) which contains the electrodes that electronically charge the water. A computer controller and a Venturi complete the Oxygen Purification System. A ball valve and check valve would also be added to the line. The round chamber houses high-density carbon! ceramic/graphite probes which pass the electronic charge to the water molecules. When the water molecules are charged, they separate and create hydroxyl and oxygen radicals. These radicals then recombine to form the hydroxyl and oxygen radicals. Oxidation, sanitation and disinfection occur when these hydroxyl and oxygen radicals are produced.

The system comes in two sizes. The standard system will handle up to a 50,000-gallon commercial pool with light to moderate bather loads and retails for $1,395 plus installation and tax. The larger system is capable of sanitizing up to a 100,000-gallon pool and retails for $2,895 plus installation and tax. Larger pools or pools with high bather loads can be treated by placing several units in parallel.

Minimum levels of chlorine or bromine must be maintained as directed by local health code standards. Because the system takes over the bulk of the sanitizing load as well as destroys combined chlorine and bromine on contact, the pool & spa can be maintained with dramatically fewer chemicals. The combined chlorine and bromine are the basic causes of everything negative most people associate with commercial pools - heavy odor, red burning eyes, dry itchy skin, bleached out hair and bathing suits, not to mention damaged pool equipment and surfaces. This means less maintenance, happier guests and employees.

Natural Water Environments and the Hydroxyl Radical Generating System have received numerous endorsements from such medical groups as, The American Environmental Health Foundation and the Environmental Health Center for their work with chemically sensitive patients. Natural Water Environments is also the company of record for both of these organizations for any and all swimming pool related inquiries from chemically sensitive patients.
